The company "Hercules" was founded in 1886 by Carl Marschütz as Velozipedfabrik Carl Marschütz & Co. and produced bicycles in the early years until 1928. It was not until 1928 that the production of motorcycles with a cubic capacity of less than 200 cm³ was worthwhile again. All engines of the Hercules two-wheelers were made by Fichtel & Sachs.
